Agricultural Economist
Location: Carmel, IN
Job duties: Conduct economic analysis and research to evaluate investment opportunities and submit recommendations to the firm’s investment committee; Lead ad hoc economic research projects for the marketing department; Qualitatively and quantitatively assess acquisition targets and prepare investment recommendations; Construct asset valuation models for potential investment opportunities; Aid in the construction and maintenance of long-term price models for various commodities; Assist with client reporting and calculating investment performance; Assess the economic efficacy of regenerative agriculture and its related topics; Specifically analyze the cost-benefit of regenerative practices, such as cover crops, and conduct a market analysis of existing carbon markets and their robustness; Conduct long-term economic analysis of existing crop types deemed relevant to the firm, so as to identify investment opportunities, as well as aid in their timing; Streamline data collection to aid in the general efficiency of the firm, as well as improve decision-making processes. Aid in managing the firm’s current database to improve data management and information access; Assist with marketing to create client-facing research papers to aid in the capital raising process; Attend relevant industry conferences on behalf of the firm to stay abreast of new information; Work closely with the asset acquisition and portfolio management teams to ensure near-team actions are aligning with long term economic strategy. Stay current on farm policy and the general macro-economy to aid the firm in processing new information; Investigate regional farmland markets by identifying favorable local economic conditions that may lead to future investment opportunities; and Conduct research on emerging crop types and evaluate their investment potential.
Travel: 10% travel required to attend industry conferences and occasional farm visits. Telecommuting permitted a maximum of 2 days per week.
Job Requirements: Master’s (or foreign equivalent) degree in Agricultural Economics or related.
